In the real “olden days” there was a town every few miles because folks had to take horses and buggies to get there. With Montana being so geographically large and dedicated to agriculture, there are hundreds of remnants of small towns. Basin is a little over 300 people today, and touts that it’s an artist’s retreat, but decades ago it was home to about 1500 with a strong mining history.
