Last summer, wildfires burned hundreds of thousands acres in northeast Wyoming. Those fires also ignited a slow-burning threat: coal seams. They can smolder underground for years before potentially finding their way to the surface and igniting more wildfires. Now, three counties want to find these sites and try to limit their risks.
